Conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk delivered his final speech on a controversial topic — the transgender shooter — shortly before he was assassinated at Utah Valley University.

Kirk was fatally shot in the neck by a gunman firing from a nearby campus building. The shocking incident has fueled debate about political violence, free speech, and campus security in America.

Former President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death, calling him “The Great and Legendary Charlie Kirk” and ordering U.S. flags lowered to half-mast. The White House also extended condolences to Kirk’s wife, Erika Kirk, and his family.

Kirk’s final remarks on the transgender shooter controversy have now resurfaced, drawing attention to the divisive climate he often engaged in.

Die US-Late-Night-Show „Jimmy Kimmel Live” ist vorerst abgesetzt worden. Gründe dafür sollen Äußerungen des Moderators im Zusammenhang mit dem Mord an Charlie Kirk sein – und Kimmels Kritik an Trump.

Die Sendung werde „auf unbestimmte Zeit“ aus dem Programm genommen, teilte der Sender ABC US-Medien mit.

Kimmel thematisierte das Attentat an Charlie Kirk am Montag (15.09.2025) in seiner beliebten Late-Night-Show. „Wir hatten am Wochenende einige neue Tiefpunkte, als die MAGA-Gang verzweifelt versuchte“, den Mann, der Charlie Kirk mutmaßlich ermordet habe, „als alles andere als einen von ihnen darzustellen und alles Mögliche tat, um daraus politisches Kapital zu schlagen“, sagte er. MAGA ist die Abkürzung der rechtskonservativen Trump-Bewegung „Make America Great Again“.

Während Politiker der Demokraten die vorläufige Absetzung von Kimmels Sendung kritisierten, äußerte sich Präsident Trump erfreut und forderte sogar, weitere Shows ihm unliebsamer Moderatoren abzusetzen.

„Tolle Neuigkeiten für Amerika“, kommentierte Trump die Personalie auf seiner Plattform Truth Social. „Glückwunsch an ABC, dass sie endlich den Mut hatten, das zu tun, was getan werden musste.“

In den Vereinigten Staaten tobt ein erbitterter Streit darüber, wie sich über den Tod des Rechtsradikalen Charlie Kirk geäußert werden darf.

Trump und seine Regierung haben angekündigt, gegen Kommentatoren vorzugehen, die sich ihrer Meinung nach nicht angemessen äußern. Kritiker halten es für höchst bedenklich, dass dabei Presse- und Meinungsfreiheit auf der Strecke bleiben.

Trump attackiert seit Langem Late-Night-Moderatoren, die ihn verspotten. Zu ihnen zählt Stephen Colbert, dessen „Late Show“ im kommenden Jahr eingestellt wird.

Trump machte immer wieder deutlich, dass ihm neben Colbert vor allem Jimmy Kimmel ein Dorn im Auge sei.
