Actor, director and activist Robert Redford died Tuesday morning at the age of 89.

Regarded as one of Hollywood’s leading men in the 1970s and ‘80s, he also launched the Sundance Institute and Festival to promote indie films.

Redford also spent his time off film sets working on causes close to him, including weighing in on political issues and environmental activism.

He sat down with the CBC in 2010 to promote his film The Conspirator.
